These Automatons were created as military weapons, and the humans who control them are known as puppeteers. Yaya is the automaton companion of Raishin Akabane, a puppeteer who travels from Japan to Liverpool to study at the Walpurgis Royal Academy of Machinart. Raishin enters the Night Party, a competition held every four years where puppeteers battle using their automatons for the title of Wiseman, though his true motivation is revenge against a mysterious figure who killed his family members.
