The Lost Children Chapter represents an early arc in Guts's journey as the Black Swordsman, years after the Eclipse. Following the traumatic events where Griffith—reborn as the demonic Femto—sacrificed the Band of the Hawk and assaulted Casca, Guts entrusts the mentally broken Casca to the care of the blacksmith Godo before setting out on a vengeful war against Apostles. During this period, Guts is haunted by the Demon Child, his and Casca's unborn son corrupted by Femto's violation. He travels accompanied by the elf Puck, battling demonic beings while marked by the Brand of Sacrifice.
