A founding member of Amphisbaena and Heaven's Slave as well as a member of Dollars, he serves as one of the main antagonistic forces throughout the series. His jolly, mocking personality and habit of using nicknames like "Shizu-chan" for his rival Shizuo Heiwajima make him both compelling and dangerous. Beneath his cheerful exterior, Izaya is described as a deeply miserable person who longs for genuine human connection but is unable to sustain it.
