Kaoru Niimi was an Earthling officer serving in the space battleship Yamato's technical division. A member of the Project Izumo Faction, she conspired to launch a mutiny to end Program Yamato and return to Earth. She was an accomplished scientist who earned a doctorate in psychology and developed extensive knowledge of physics, having studied under Shiro Sanada at the National Space Defense Academy. She later joined the Earth Federation's Science Bureau and contributed to the development of the experimental wave motion ship Ginga during the Gatlantis Campaign. She also served as the Yamato's technical officer during its mission to the Salezar system and eventually became the foster mother of Sasha Iscandar Kodai. The Yamato Girls Collection line focuses on the female characters of the Yamato series, and this figure captures Niimi's intelligent and composed character design through the combined sculpting talents of Watanabe Takamasa and Inagaki Hiroshi.
