Hyakka Ryouran is set in an alternate timeline during the early Edo period, where students at the Buou Academic School are trained as samurai warriors. Female students known as Master Samurai serve their male masters in battle, combining historical figures with an action-packed narrative. Naoe Kanetsugu is based on the historical retainer of the Uesugi clan, reimagined as a warrior within this stylized setting.
