Uchuusen Sagittarius is a 77-episode Japanese science fiction anime television series that aired from January 1986 to October 1987, directed by Kazuyoshi Yokota and created by Nippon Animation and TV Asahi. Based on comics by Italian physicist Andrea Romoli, the series follows the adventures of four astronauts who travel through space visiting many planets, with each adventure carrying a moral such as the value of friendship or the protection of endangered species. Set in a not-so-distant future resembling the late 20th century but with interstellar travel and laser weapons, the series was a huge success in Japan and won the Osamu Tezuka Atom Award at the Tokyo Film Festival.
