Born Abel Knightlord, he is a 976-year-old Crusnik—a vampire who feeds on other vampires—who works as a member of the AX division of the Vatican Ministry of Holy Affairs. Abel appears as a clumsy, silly, and comically exaggerated man in his day-to-day life, but this personality is a facade. When alone or caught off guard, he is quiet and morose, haunted by his role in a past war of annihilation against humanity. He changed his outlook after the death of his former lover, Lilith Sahl. In his Crusnik form, his eyes turn red, fangs emerge, and black wings manifest, along with a red scythe formed from his blood. He typically wears a black priest robe with embroidered crosses, white gloves, and round glasses with a double bridge, with his long silver hair tied by a black ribbon.
