Bandai Namco Entertainment partnered with McDonald's to produce this Mecha-Don figure as part of a Taiko no Tatsujin Happy Set promotion. This collaborative toy was released in September 2010 alongside the Taiko no Tatsujin DS3 game, creating a unique crossover between gaming and fast food merchandise. Taiko no Tatsujin is Bandai Namco's popular rhythm game series featuring the iconic drum-playing characters Wada Don and Wadaiko. The McDonald's Happy Set promotion included multiple Taiko no Tatsujin themed toys, each with interactive functionality. When used with the DS game Yokai Great Decisive Battle, the toys could be detected by the DS microphone, with Mecha-Don specifically unlocking the Mecha-don drum within the game. The Happy Set collection included eight different figures total: Wadaiko-Don, Satsumaiimo-Don, Mcdonaldon, Cake-Don, Mozardon, Panda-Don, Ribbon-Don, and Mecha-Don, each unlocking different costumes or drums in the game.
