About this figure

Hachifuku presents Toro-Benten, a figure inspired by the real-life Shoeizan Ryohoji Temple in Hachioji, Tokyo. This 110mm figure represents the anime-styled persona of Benzaiten, the goddess enshrined at this Nichiren-shū Buddhist temple. Ryohoji Temple gained widespread attention as the "Moe-ji" (萌え寺) after installing illustrated signboards depicting Buddhist and Shinto deities as anime characters in 2009. The temple's abbot collaborated with voice actress and illustrator Toromi, who took on the cosplay persona "Toro Benten" to represent the enshrined Shingo Benzaiten. The temple even released a theme song titled "Tera zukkyun! Ai no Ryōhō-ji!" under the Ryōhō-j Records label created by music ensemble IOSYS, blending traditional worship with otaku culture. This figure by Hachifuku captures the unique intersection of religious tradition and anime aesthetics that defines Ryohoji Temple, making it a distinctive collectible for those interested in Japan's contemporary pop-culture spirituality.
