Her name combines "hatsu" (first), "ne" (sound), and "Miku" (future), meaning "the first sound from the future." Crypton conceived her as "an android diva in the near-future world where songs are lost," with original character art by illustrator KEI, who was given a blue-green color scheme based on Yamaha synthesizers.
