The story follows Himari Takakura, a terminally ill girl miraculously saved by a mysterious spirit residing in a penguin-shaped hat. In exchange for extending her life, the spirit tasks Himari's brothers, Kanba and Shouma, with seeking out an item called the Penguin Drum, aided by a trio of strange penguins numbered 1, 2, and 3. The Princess of the Crystal is the enigmatic personality that emerges when Himari wears the hat.
