The VF-25 Messiah is the titular Variable Fighter of Macross Frontier, set in 2059 aboard the Macross Frontier colonization fleet. Developed by Shinsei Industries, Macross Frontier Arsenal Original Development, and the LAI Corporation, the VF-25 was created from the YF-24 Evolution prototype as a potential successor to the VF-171 Nightmare Plus. Alto Saotome, a pilot with Skull Squadron, flies the VF-25F variant under the designation Skull 4, taking over from the previous pilot Henry Gilliam. The series follows Alto and the Frontier fleet as they encounter the mysterious Vajra aliens in deep space.
