His character design was heavily inspired by James Coburn's performance in The Magnificent Seven, and his voice actor Kiyoshi Kobayashi was specifically chosen for his work dubbing Coburn's films into Japanese. Despite disliking Lupin's womanizing tendencies and the lack of discipline it brings to their heists, Jigen remains steadfastly loyal, having been with Lupin since their early days when the Lupin Empire was crumbling and former associates became rivals.
