Born to a wealthy family that manages the Ohara Hotels and Resorts chain, she is of Italian-American descent and often sprinkles English words into her speech. Mari is childhood friends with Kanan Matsuura and Dia Kurosawa, with whom she previously formed a school idol group that disbanded after Mari suffered an injury before an important performance. Despite this painful past, she returns to Uchiura and becomes the director of Uranohoshi Girls' High School while still a student, using her family's influence to support the new idol group.
