Tanjirou Kamado is the eldest son of a family of charcoal burners whose peaceful life is shattered when a demon slaughters his entire family, leaving only his younger sister Nezuko alive — though transformed into a demon herself. Driven by a desire to restore Nezuko's humanity and avenge his family, Tanjirou joins the Demon Slayer Corps, mastering Water Breathing techniques and later Sun Breathing, the original breathing style. His keen sense of smell and unwavering compassion, even toward demons he must slay, set him apart as a protagonist. Throughout his journey, he confronts the Twelve Kizuki and ultimately the demon king Muzan Kibutsuji.
