The kuji theme centers around a summer festival setting with the Shinsengumi on special patrol duty, capturing the festive and comedic spirit that Gintama is known for. Gintama follows the story of Sakata Gintoki, a lazy but skilled former samurai running an odd-jobs business in an alternate Edo-period Japan that has been conquered by aliens called Amanto. Sadaharu is the massive white dog that belongs to the Yorozuya office, originally abandoned and taken in by Gintoki and his companions. Despite his enormous size, Sadaharu is generally gentle and has a habit of biting people's heads, particularly Gintoki's.
