In Gintama, Yagyuu Kyuubei is the heir to the Yagyuu family, one of the prominent samurai clans in the series. Raised as a male despite being female, Kyuubei is a skilled swordswoman with a complex relationship with her gender identity and her childhood friend Shimura Tae. Bichigusomaru, whose full name is a comically long string of words ending in Bichiguso Maru, is a mischievous monkey with light brown fur, reddish skin, and an unusually long tail, wearing a red collar with a small metallic bell. Kyuubei was in charge of raising and training him, and the monkey became deeply attached to her.
