Android 17, originally a human named Lapis, was modified into a cyborg by the rogue scientist Dr. Gero alongside his sister Android 18. Introduced during the Android Saga, he and his sister were designed to eliminate Goku, but 17's rebellious and carefree nature led him to reject Gero's control.
