X-Plus, in collaboration with Plex, presents Varan as part of the DefoReal Series, a line known for its stylized, deformed take on classic Toho kaiju. This figure captures the flying squirrel-like reptilian monster from the 1958 Toho film Daikaijuu Varan in a compact yet detailed format. Varan, also known as Varan the Unbelievable, is one of Toho's lesser-seen kaiju, a prehistoric reptilian creature discovered living in a remote mountainous region. The monster is notable for its ability to glide through the air using membrane-like flaps along its body, making it a unique entry in the Toho bestiary. The DefoReal treatment gives Varan a charmingly condensed proportions while retaining the creature's distinctive features. The figure stands approximately 14 cm tall and measures 17 cm in length, and includes a mountain god statue accessory standing 5 cm tall. The set retailed for 9,350 yen (8,500 yen on the US X-Plus site) and was released in February 2021.
