The Japanese production of Cats has run continuously since 1983 and has developed independently over the years, maintaining a strongly Japanese-influenced interpretation while preserving the show's replica status. The production underwent major revisions in 1998 and 2018, with unique ensemble character designs and roles that differ significantly from western productions. Notable differences include the absence of characters like Alonzo and the restructuring of ensemble roles such as the twins, traditionally Coricopat and Tantomile, who are instead portrayed by Cassandra and Tumblebrutus.
